Dunlop Riders Dig Daytona Dirt

Buffalo, NY: The annual motorcycle races at the Daytona International Speedway featured a unique twist this year: American Flat Track (AFT) kicked off the 2019 series with a TT course built in Daytona’s infield that also utilized some of the fabled 18-degree banked pavement as part of the course.

The racing was spectacular, with Briar Bauman grabbing the win in the AFT Twins class on his Indian FTR750. Jesse Janisch dominated the AFT Singles class, winning his heat race and semifinal before taking the victory in the 15-lap main event.

In Supercross action, it was Eli Tomac taking the 450-class win ahead of Cooper Webb and Marvin Musquin. The win marked the 25th time a Dunlop rider has won the premier class at the Daytona Supercross, including a streak of 12 Dunlop victories in a row. In the 250 East class, Team Dunlop Alumni Austin Forkner kept his win-streak alive, taking another victory to stretch his commanding 23 point lead in the championship.

The Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross Championship saw Dunlop riders take 32 of a possible 34 titles. Seven of those titles were won by Team Dunlop Elite riders; Ryder DiFrancesco (2); Daxton Bennick (2); Jett Reynolds (1); Kade Johnson (1); and Gavin Towers (1). Another standout performance was delivered by B rider Jarrett Frye who won 3 championships on Dunlop tires. The MX33 was the tire of choice among the Daytona champions.
