Buffalo, NY: Russian rider Evgeny Bobryshev achieved a perfect double-moto victory at round nine of the 2011 FIM World Motocross Championship held at Teutschenthal, Germany. The Honda World Motocross team rider swept both MX1 motos on Dunlop tires en route to capturing the first-ever MX1 overall victory of his career. Dunlop-sponsored racers filled three of the top six overall spots.
In front of 40,000 fans, 23-year-old Bobryshev mastered the Teutschenthal track, which contained variable terrain conditions from fast and bumpy hard-packed sections, to deep loamy ruts and slippery, freshly watered gradients. Bobryshev held off reigning champion Tony Cairoli to take back-to-back moto wins, giving Russia its first MX1 victory in 31 years.
“Thank you, Dunlop!” said Bobryshev. “The tires performed so well! I got two excellent starts and was really fast on the track.” Bobryshev’s win elevated him to fourth in the World Championship with six rounds to go.
“Wow! What a race,” said Dunlop’s Motocross Race Coordinator Eddy Seel. “You could really see the traction of our tires at the start of both heats, and Bobby rode amazing races. He was the fastest on track, and I am really happy for his first-ever GP win! We are taking big steps at the moment, and I’m looking forward to more success this season.”
Toshifumi Yuze, Dunlop’s Manager of Motocross Tire Development, heralded the win. “We came to this GP very confident as we had made some new developments and it worked out perfectly: good traction, cornering grip and durability. Our strong collaboration with Honda has brought the result we were all waiting for: the first GP win of the season!”
Bobryshev’s teammate Rui Goncalves finished just shy of the podium in fourth overall, while LS Honda rider Ken De Dycker charged through the field in both races to make it three Dunlop riders in the overall top six.
Round 10 of the FIM MX1 World Championship will be held at Kegums, Latvia, on July 17.
