MotoAmerica Update

It’s safe to say that Yoshimura Suzuki’s Tony Elias enjoys racing in America. The former Moto2 world champion—and the only guy racing here who once beat Valentino Rossi during his MotoGP career—has set the bar pretty high in the MotoAmerica Superbike class.

So far, Elias has posted eight wins, including the last five races in a row, and he’s stood on the box in every race he’s finished. Despite one DNF, Elias holds a commanding 40-point lead over teammate Roger Hayden, who has one win and seven second place finishes so far. Yamaha’s Cameron Beaubier and Josh Hayes are currently third and fourth respectively—Beaubier with two wins on the books, and 42-year-old Hayes adding one more win to his storied career. He is currently only three wins behind Miguel Duhamel’s all-time AMA class win record. In the Superstock 1000 class, Matthew Scholtz leads Bobby Fong and Jake Lewis, with all three riders posting wins this season. The Superport class has been the most hotly contested battle this year, with Yamaha teammates Garrett Gerloff and JD Beach trading wins all season, and currently only separated by four points. In the Superstock 600 class, Jason Agular leads Michael Gilbert while Ben Smith holds a significant points lead in the KTM RC Cup class. Dunlop is the official tire of MotoAmerica, and supplies the paddock with tires made here in America.
