Ryan Villopoto and Eli Tomac Wrap Up the 2013 AMA Pro 450 and 250 Motocross Championships

Buffalo, NY: Round 11 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship series held at the state-of-the-art Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT witnessed two champions crowned: Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto grabbed his second career 450 Motocross Championship, while GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac clinched his first ever 250 title. Both Dunlop-sponsored riders have had incredible seasons, wrapping up their championships with one round remaining and each having logged a total of six overall wins this season.

Saturday’s championship marks Villopoto’s ninth career professional AMA title, including three consecutive Supercross crowns and two motocross championships in three years—all on Dunlop tires. He has become only the 11th rider in Lucas Oil Pro Motocross history to win more than a single 450cc class title. The Monster Energy Kawasaki rider held the red plate the entire 11 rounds and scored 16 of 22 moto victories en route to the championship.

Tomac has managed to put his Dunlop-sponsored Honda CRF250R on the podium at every round this season, and has won 13 of 22 motos so far, including eight in a row and 11 of the last 13. Tomac took over the championship lead at round nine in Millville, MN, and since then has continued to extend his points lead over second until getting the 51-point edge he needed to wrap up the title this past Saturday.

Both Tomac and Villopoto used Dunlop’s Geomax line of motocross tires in 2013 in their quest to win championships, and both riders—like all of the professional motocross, off-road and road racing racers that Dunlop sponsors—provided valuable feedback throughout the year that Dunlop uses to fuel our product development for both professional racers and consumers.

Dunlop would like to congratulate the Monster Energy Kawasaki team and Ryan Villopoto, and the GEICO Honda team and Eli Tomac on their hard-fought 2013 AMA Motocross championships.
